We are often asked what the difference is between the various sling types we offer. Often it is just a matter of personal taste or a preference for a particular 'look'. However on the whole slings fall into two main categories - Ring type slings and Pouch types. The easiest way to explain the difference is that the pouch type slings have a 'fixed sized' pouch area into which you place the baby or toddler. This area cannot be increased in size, although you can alter the way you wear it to change the baby's position or change the way you place the baby in the pouch. With Ring slings the wearer forms a pouch area with the fabric forming a 'cocoon' around the baby. This type of sling therefore literally 'grows' with your baby. Below is a summary of what we feel are the mainadvantages of each sling type.
Freedom Pouch - The 'contented little baby pouch' is an easy to use pouch. The gentle movement of the pouch which mimics the feeling that the baby had whilst in the womb, is great for calming newborns and young colicky babies.
Freedom Sling - The best all round sling. Copes equally well with a newborn as it does with 3+year old. Very versatile sling that literally grows with your baby.
Padded Freedom Sling - As the Freedom Sling but with lightly padded rails which are perfectly positioned for supporting baby's head whilst breastfeeding on the move.
Murrons Pouch - Compact, light, versatile sling. Easy to use, no rings, no buckles or straps etc. Great for schools runs or whilst travelling etc.
Lightly Padded Freedom Sling - This lightweight padded sling type offers all the comfort of a padded sling without the extra bulk. Our unique pleated shoulder design has style and neatness that appeal to the fashion concious baby wearer whilst still allowing the fabric to spread across the back and shoulder for better weight distribution for the heavier baby or toddler. Best sling type for petite sizes.
All of our slings are suitable for breastfeeding with the padded and unpadded slings being endorsed by best selling author and midwife Sharon trotter. Both these slings are the only ones I would recommend for breastfeeding on the move.
